DREAM WORK
The easiest techniques I know for inducing OOBEs involve projection while the body is either asleep or in a state “close to” sleep. Shortly, we will focus on simple methods of accomplishing this. There is some preliminary work with dreams, however, that for many will be a prerequisite for taking full advantage of the techniques that will be presented. For those of you who already work with dreams, some of this will be a review.
Dreams are, quite simply, a natural doorway to the inner dimensions of your being. In the dream state, we travel each night to deep levels where we drink from the fountain of energy and knowledge, which forever sustains our eternal and constantly growing identity. We usually remember little of these deeper excursions because they reach into dimensions of experience that are quite different from the physical world we know so well. Sometimes the dreams we remember are our own attempts to translate this deeper wisdom into a physical play that we can understand.
I believe that, in the dream world, we often visit the past and the future. We communicate with other parts of our beings. We communicate with reincarnational selves, comparing notes, exchanging information, and moving through time as easily as our physical bodies breathe. We receive instruction from our inner selves, the greater selves of which we are a part. And to the degree that we are open to such information, we can facilitate the transfer and incorporation of this learning into our physical lives.
Dreams can be used for many purposes, including problem solving, examining beliefs, gaining understanding about current life situations, promoting health and healing, getting in touch with repressed emotions, and lots more. To take full advantage of this resource, however, it is important to give our dreams the attention they deserve.
I believe that our dreaming selves are just as valid as our physical selves. They are a portion of ourselves. The dreaming self and the physically oriented self are both parts of our greater identity—an identity that inhabits many dimensions. The dreaming self and the waking self are intimately connected. They are on a continuum of being and are not really separate. They are the same Self, two sides of the same coin but existing in different dimensions. Following is a description of an out-of-body experience I had in which it seemed as if I merged with some of these other parts of my being:
I found myself sitting at a table in a room I did not recognize. At the table were several people, including myself. I was completely alert, and I knew that I was outside my physical body. I was fascinated by how totally real everything looked and felt. This room felt as real as any I had ever sat in. I was myself and knew that I was myself, and yet I was somehow something more. It felt as if I had merged with another, larger aspect of myself. I began to have a discussion with the people at the table about the portion of myself that inhabited normal physical reality.
